Trout in the Classroom
Shasta-Trinity Fly Fishers, in cooperation with the California Department of Fish & Game provides a “Trout in the Classroom” project to six elementary schools in the Redding Area. The students raise trout from eggs to fry and then release them into DF&G approved cold water streams and lakes. This act of raising, monitoring, and caring for young trout fosters a conservation ethic within participating students and promotes an understanding of their shared water resources.
Shasta-Trinity Fly Fishers provides funding for the entire program including the purchase of all aquarium, water chilling units, training, and busing the student to the “release” locations. Shasta-Trinity Fly Fishers' members monitor the project in each school, hold instructional sessions with the students, and assist the students in releasing the fry.
